Long before corporate titles, Tricky had the instinct of a visionary.

He famously signed Frank Ocean to Island Def Jam, helping introduce one of the most influential voices in modern music.

From 2011 to 2013, he served as President of A&R at Epic Records, helping to steer the label’s creative direction and support the rise of transformative talent. His unique ability to merge creative intuition with business acumen has made him a trusted figure across the industry.

Tricky’s influence extends into film and television as well. He served as Executive Music Producer for major motion pictures including Burlesque and The Lorax, and most recently produced Alicia Keys’ “Lifeline” for the Oscar-nominated adaptation of The Color Purple. In 2024, he was entrusted with the oversight and musical curation of the BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher, a long-held personal milestone that speaks to his ongoing relevance and range.

In recognition of his impact, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2022.

He has served as a mentor on American Idol, working closely with finalists Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery under Jimmy Iovine’s direction, and he currently leads as Chairman of the Recording Academy’s Atlanta Chapter and Co-Chair of its Songwriters & Composers Wing.

Through his creative headquarters, SESSIONS ATLANTA, Tricky continues to build a legacy rooted in
mentorship, experimentation, and excellence. His recent credits include executive producing Muni Long’s 2024 album, crafting standout records for P1Harmony, co-producing and co-writing Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul,” and contributing as a writer to Tyla’s breakout hit “Water.”
